‘For personal interest…’ PM Modi lashed out at the opposition’s no-confidence motion, called it a ‘political misdeed’, wrote a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla after the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition against him was rejected in the House and termed the development as a ‘political misdeed’ and expressed happiness over its rejection by the House.

In a letter written to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the statement of Om Birla, which he gave in the House after the failure of the motion. PM Modi wrote, ‘The balance, patience and clarity with which you mentioned parliamentary history and the supremacy of rules is extremely impressive. Your statement is not just a response to that moment, but a deep explanation of Indian democratic dignity.

‘Nobody is above the rules’
Referring to the role of the Speaker in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said that the Speaker is not only the conductor of the proceedings but also the guardian of institutional dignity. He reiterated Birla’s message in which he had said that ‘no one in the House is above the rules.’ He further said that his message is going to re-establish the basic spirit of democracy.

In the letter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sharply criticized the opposition and said that the familial and feudal thinking of some people does not allow them to see new and young public representatives moving forward. He said, political disagreement is now turning into ‘disrespect’. The dignity of constitutional posts is being hurt due to personal interest and ego. Similar tendencies were seen during the time of former president Sumitra Mahajan also.

Along with national responsibilities, the Prime Minister also praised Om Birla’s attachment towards his parliamentary constituency. Referring to the recent foundation stone laying ceremony of Kota Airport project, he said that Birla’s balance towards his constituency as a public representative is inspiring. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Speaker will continue to run the House with the same impartiality and integrity, which will further strengthen Indian parliamentary democracy.
