Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reached Russia on Monday (April 27, 2026) amid uncertainty over the second round of peace talks in Tehran and Washington to resolve the ongoing war in West Asia. During this, he described his visit to Islamabad as very fruitful and said that he had meaningful discussions with the top leadership of Pakistan.
Araghchi arrived in Russia after his second visit to Islamabad in the last three days. In Islamabad he met Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
“We had productive talks with our friends in Pakistan,” Araghchi said in a video message shared on his Telegram channel after reaching St. Petersburg. This journey was successful. We assessed the findings of our recent meetings and discussed in what direction and under what circumstances the talks could move forward.

Referring to the second round of talks between the US and Iran to resolve the conflict in West Asia, Araghchi said, ‘Progress has been made in the talks.’ According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Araghchi said, ‘Despite some progress in the first round of talks, the talks could not reach their objectives due to the attitude of the US side, its inconsistent demands and wrong approach. Therefore, it was necessary to consult our friends in Pakistan to review the current situation.

Araghchi said the visit to Pakistan was a good opportunity to review the developments related to the US and Israel’s war against Iran. He expressed confidence that this consultation and coordination between the two countries will be very important. Araghchi arrived at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport early Monday, where he was welcomed by Russian officials and Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.
