All the parties including Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress are working hard for the West Bengal elections. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gave a big statement regarding the prices of petrol and diesel. Rahul claimed on Tuesday (April 28) that the Modi government will put the burden of inflation on the people after the voting for the second and final phase of West Bengal assembly elections ends on Wednesday. However, the government has already clarified its position on this matter.
Rahul said that the prices of petrol and diesel are going to increase. He wrote on the social media platform X, ‘Election relief is over, the heat of inflation is ready! Look after April 29 – petrol, diesel, everything will be expensive. When oil was cheap, the Modi government kept its profits. Now it is expensive, so it will put the burden on you. Government looting cheap money – people are just getting hit by inflation.
What did the government say about the increase in the price of petrol and diesel?
The central government clarified on Tuesday that there is no plan to increase the prices of petrol and diesel after the assembly elections end on Wednesday. This assurance from the government has come at a time when there is instability in the global oil market due to the situation in West Asia.
Why did the discussion start regarding the price of oil?
There has been no change in the retail prices of petrol and diesel for the fourth consecutive year. Due to conflict in West Asia, crude oil has become costlier by more than 50 percent in the last two months.
Government oil companies are incurring huge losses due to the increasing difference between cost and selling price. According to some estimates, this daily loss is around Rs 2,400 crore. For this reason, there was speculation that prices may increase after the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry.
