Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to reject the bail plea of Omar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. The Supreme Court on Monday (January 5, 2026) has refused to grant bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, the main accused in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala has praised this decision of the court, calling it a victory of truth. Along with this, he targeted the Congress and demanded that the Congress Party should apologize to the victims of the incident for defending the accused.

He said, ‘This was not a coincidence, but a contradictory experiment. It was not natural, but organized. Not momentary, but sponsored. Congress should apologize for supporting the Tukde Tukde gang from Afzal Guru to Umar and Sharjeel.
Despite UAPA allegations, Congress supported the accused – Shehzad
At the same time, in a press conference after the court’s decision, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala justified this and said that the Delhi riots were not a momentary incident. During this, he demanded an apology from the Congress and alleged that the Congress Party had supported the accused who played an important role in the riots.
He said, ‘Today we will say Satyamev Jayate, because the Supreme Court has rejected the bail plea of Tukde Tukde gang poster boys Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, finding the charges under UAPA true. Despite such serious allegations, Congress continued to defend the accused. These are the same people who want to divide India into pieces. They should ask for it today. The entire ecosystem of the Congress Party should apologize today.
