The statement of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan is being discussed as much in India as it is in Pakistan. Pakistani media is telling its public that India has accepted its defeat on Operation Sindoor. The media there is quoting his statement and saying that Indian leaders have finally started accepting Pakistan’s victory during Operation Sindoor.
Prithviraj Chavan had said on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) regarding Operation Sindoor that India had lost the war on the very first day. In the air battle that lasted for half an hour on 7th May, we (INDIA) were completely defeated. He also said, ‘Whether people believe it or not. Indian planes were shot down. The Indian Air Force had completely come to the ground. Not a single plane was able to fly. If any plane had taken off from Bathinda, Sirsa or Gwalior, Pakistan could have shot it down, that is why the Air Force was completely kept on the ground.
On this statement of Prithviraj Chavan, Pakistani news website named The Pakistan Connect has written that former Maharashtra CM and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has admitted that India had to face complete defeat on the first day of Operation Sindoor. It was further written in the report that while talking about the air war, Prithviraj Chavan says that on May 7, on the first day of the half-hour sky war i.e. Operation Sindoor, we (India) were completely defeated.
Pakistan Connect sarcastically said that Prithviraj Chavan’s statement has come at a time when India has been continuously denying that any of its aircraft has fallen. This line was also quoted in the report in which he said that if any plane had taken off from Gwalior, Bathinda or Sirsa, Pakistan could have shot it down.
Prithviraj Chavan had also said on Tuesday that India is superior to Pakistan in terms of army size, but Operation Sindoor has clearly proved that future conflicts will be fought largely with air power and missiles.
He said, ‘If we talk about the army, we have 12 lakh to 15 lakh soldiers, while Pakistan has five lakh to six lakh soldiers, but it (larger numbers) has no importance because that kind of war (on the ground level) will not happen now.’
The Congress leader said, ‘Now it does not matter how much infantry you have, because no one will let you fight that kind of war. We have seen during Operation Sindoor that the army did not advance even a kilometer. During Operation Sindoor, the fighting was limited to only air and missile attacks and in future also the wars will be like this. Chavan said, ‘In such a situation, what is the need to maintain an army of 12 lakh soldiers? It would be better to employ them in some other work.
