BJP MLA caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs 5 lakh in Karnataka, major action by Lokayukta; Two others also arrested, know the whole matter

In Karnataka, a BJP MLA has been arrested red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. The name of the MLA is Chandru Lamani. He is an MLA from Karnataka Shirahatti Assembly. Karnataka Lokayukta has taken action. The accused MLA had demanded a bribe of Rs 11 lakh, which was to be given in two parts.

Officials say Lamani was first arrested for questioning. After this he was officially arrested. Apart from these, two other associates of the MLA have also been arrested.

What is the whole matter, what did the Lokayukta tell?

Lokayukta officials say that this bribe is allegedly related to a project of small irrigation department in Gadag district. Approval was sought regarding this. This work is related to building a wall on both sides of the road. It was given to a contractor.

Actually, Class-1 contractor Vijay Pujar of Gadag had contacted anti-corruption officials. In this he had said that Rs 11 lakh was demanded for giving approval for the said project. After this, the action was taken by the Lokayukta on Saturday. During this, a BJP MLA was caught red-handed taking Rs 5 lakh. The action was taken under the supervision of a senior officer of Lokayukta Police.

Two others also arrested on suspicion of involvement in the conspiracy

Apart from this, two other associates including BJP MLA Manjunath Valmiki and Gurunaik were also detained. He was taken for further investigation. Officials suspect that both were involved in this alleged transaction. Evidence is being collected for investigation. Also their statements are being taken. At present all three are being interrogated. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
