US President Donald Trump will visit China from March 31 to April 2. A White House official has confirmed this. China is seeing this as a victory, because it is going to cause chaos in the global system. Due to Trump’s unstable foreign policy, China has recently opened its doors to many global leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Relations with Europe deteriorated due to Trump’s attitude
These countries were traditional allies of America but they have not visited America since the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the situation has completely changed after Donald Trump’s insistence on acquiring Greenland and imposing tariffs on the EU and forcing the EU to increase defense spending.
Furthermore, in wide-ranging discussions held at meetings such as the World Economic Forum in Davos, Western leaders have openly acknowledged that the US-backed post-1945 order is now waning, which is not entirely different from China’s view.
Canada and China are coming closer
According to CNN, in view of the first visit of a Canadian Prime Minister to China since 2017, Carney has relaxed the stringent tariffs imposed on electric vehicles made in China, which Canada had imposed in line with the US. In return, restrictions on Canadian agricultural products were also relaxed. Separately, Beijing and the European Union last month softened their stance and agreed to replace tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles with commitments to sell them at the lowest prices.
What did the US Finance Minister say?
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told Politico that America’s relations with China have reached a very good balance, where differences are less likely to escalate into major economic conflict like last year. Besant said that US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping can meet four times this year and a positive relationship can be formed between them.
According to Politico, he said that when leaders are deciding the direction of overall relations, if any rift or problem arises, they can immediately reduce the tension by talking on the phone.
