After the assassination of fundamentalist leader Sharif Usman Hadi in Bangladesh, violence broke out in other major cities including Dhaka. The protesters are continuously targeting the Hindu minority and talking anti-India. Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev expressed deep concern over the growing anti-India atmosphere in Bangladesh and warned that foreign agencies could take advantage of the situation to increase tension between the two neighboring countries.
‘Bangladesh is trying to harm India’
In an interview given to news agency ANI, he described the statement of Bangladesh leaders regarding the north-eastern states of India as a warning. He said, ‘The statements coming out from neighboring countries regarding India’s Seven Sisters are threats. Looking at the current situation in Bangladesh, it seems that they want to harm India.
Robinder Sachdev said, ‘Some leaders who emerged from last year’s movement in Bangladesh are repeatedly mentioning the North-East. It seems that they want to break all relations with India and are planning to harm us. He warned that enemy countries like Pakistan can take advantage of this situation.
‘The decline in Hindu population in Bangladesh is worrying’
Regarding the murder of Hindu minority Dipu Chandra Das, he said, ‘The incident of lynching of a Hindu person and the arrest of 10 accused by the Bangladesh government is a small step. We hope that the Bangladesh government will take further action, but we want that such incidents do not happen again. He said that the population of Hindus in Bangladesh is decreasing, which is a matter of concern for India.
Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina termed Mohammad Yunus’s statement regarding India’s Northeast and Chicken Neck Corridor as dangerous and irresponsible. He said that such statements reflect the growing fundamentalist influence under the current interim government. He said that no responsible leader can threaten its neighboring country, especially the country on which Bangladesh depends for trade, transit and regional stability.
