Amit Shah on Delimitation Bill 2026: There was a huge uproar in the Parliament on Thursday (April 16) regarding the Delimitation and Women’s Reservation Bill. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made many things clear regarding delimitation. Responding to the opposition, he said that confusion is being spread on the issue of delimitation. The Home Minister said that the seats in the states of South India are going to increase. The current number of seats in the Lok Sabha is 543, which is planned to be increased to a total of 850.

Amit Shah said on delimitation in the Lok Sabha that the southern states will not suffer any loss, rather their seats will increase. Amit Shah said, confusion is being spread that with the introduction of all three bills, the South’s capacity in the House will be reduced and the Southern states will suffer losses. There are currently 28 seats from Karnataka, which is 5.15 percent. After the constitutional amendment, it will become 43, which means there will be no loss at all.

There are 17 seats in Telangana, i.e. 3.13 percent, which will become 26. The power of Tamil Nadu will also not diminish. Currently there are 39 seats i.e. 7.18 percent, which will increase to 59 i.e. 7.23 percent. Currently, there are a total of 129 MPs i.e. 23.76 percent, later there will be 195 MPs. Their percentage will be 23.97. The power of the southern states will increase and there will be 816 seats. Andhra Pradesh currently has 25 seats, i.e. 4.60 percent seats, which will increase to 38.

When will delimitation be implemented, Amit Shah replied

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on women’s reservation and delimitation, Amit Shah said, ‘An incident occurred that elections were being held in Tamil Nadu and Bengal and this new act came. Let me clearly say that this Delimitation Commission report will be implemented only when the Parliament accepts it and the President gives the seal of approval to it. It is not a question of it being held before 2029 and the elections that will be held till 2029 will be held on all the old seats, under the old system, so even Akhilesh Yadav need not be afraid.
