Israel and America launched the attacks after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed a meeting with his advisors. According to Reuters report, the US official said that it was necessary to target Khamenei first in the attack. Due to this, it was feared that if the Iranian leader got a chance, he might go into hiding.
What did Israeli intelligence agencies tell?
American sources told the news agency that Khamenei was expected to hold a meeting in Tehran on Saturday evening, but Israeli intelligence agencies discovered the meeting on Saturday morning, after which the attack was moved forward. However, the location of the meeting could not be immediately known. But at the very beginning of the operation, Khamenei’s high security compound in Tehran was attacked and satellite images confirmed that it had been destroyed.
Where did Iran attack?
It was a major turning point in the 46-year-old Shia-religious rule, as Tehran’s retaliation sparked widespread unrest across much of the Middle East. As soon as the US-Israeli attack began, Tehran launched a barrage of drones and missiles against Israel, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan and Kuwait.
IRGC vowed to take revenge
Trump carried out the attack shortly after midnight in Washington and during the day in Iran. Iran has vowed fierce attacks to avenge Khamenei’s killing. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed to punish Khamenei’s killers and promised that the retaliation would be the deadliest in history against the US and Israel.
“The Iranian nation’s vengeance will not spare them to deliver harsh, decisive and painful punishment to the murderers of the Imam of the Ummah,” the IRGC said in a statement posted on its official Telegram page. Iran’s army has named its retaliatory attacks as ‘Khamir-e-Toofan’.
