NIA on Thursday (January 15) arrested a fugitive accused of CPI (Maoist) from Mumbai. This accused is related to the case of the year 2021, in which a conspiracy was going on to re-establish the Naxalite organization in the Magadh zone of Bihar-Jharkhand. The name of the arrested accused is Chandan Kumar, who is a resident of Jehanabad district of Bihar.
According to NIA investigation, Chandan was an active member of CPI (Maoist) and was involved in raising funds. Along with this, he was trying to re-contact the old cadres and integrate them back into the organization so that terrorist activities could be carried out.
NIA had registered the case in December 2021
NIA special court Ranchi had already declared Chandan a fugitive and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against him in October 2023. Since then the agency was busy searching for him. Let us tell you that this case was registered by NIA in December 2021. In this, CPI (Maoist) Special Area Committee member Pradyuman Sharma along with Yogendra Ravidas, Nagendra Giri, Abhinav alias Gaurav alias Bittu and Dhananjay Paswan were made accused.
Funds raised by collecting levy
Investigation revealed that these people were preparing to reactivate the Maoist group in Magadh zone and for this they did activities like raising funds, purchasing weapons, giving training in making IEDs and preparing cadre. The funds were raised through collection of taxes and levies from contractors and were then forwarded through various channels.
Investigation has also revealed that the accused were also trying to increase contact with the Naxalites and over ground workers lodged in jails so that the conspiracy could be taken forward. NIA had already filed a charge sheet against five accused in this case and raids were going on to nab Chandan. NIA’s investigation in this matter is still going on.
